Roof Knowledge: Broken Tiles
But no one has been on my roof, how are there broken tiles? This is a frequent inquiry we have noticed from customers over the past few years and it does ask a good question. How does a concrete tile break if nobody has been on your roof? Even though concrete can be very sturdy it is still quite common for tiles to be broken, cracked, or chipped from unseen causes. Houses for instance are constantly shifting and moving which can change or increase stress on a tile to the point where it cracks. Weather is the most obvious factor and winds can shift tiles or catch the right angles to lift just enough to crack tiles when it comes down. It does not take much wind to disrupt a few tiles and is not exclusive to monsoon season. We also come across instances with almost identical cracks and breaks on different tiles throughout the roof. Leading to a higher possibility that minor hairline cracks or flaws may have occurred during the manufacturing process. Usually something that is hard to prove and does not guarantee any refunds/rebates from the manufacturers themselves.
